Oh, homebirths are so wonderful.
I took photos at a birth the other night (click here if you want to see them), and it has occurred to me that more people should have homebirths because you just won't have moments/pictures like this in a hospital. (And I didn't even put up the pictures that showed the baby being born in the caul... you won't get that in a hospital either).
Why are only 1% doing it? Study upon study has shown that it is just as safe as a hospital birth (minus all those interventions). I think that part of it is because some women don't even realize that it is an option. That's why I'm telling you. (Because, if you haven't had a homebirth, you don't know what you're missing.)
On a related note: I'm going to see Ina May Gaskin talk tonight.

Aw, just gorgeous pictures!
Homebirths interest me a great deal and I too, think that in the right situation (low risk etc) it could be a wonderful experience :)
oh how I wanted to see Ina. Good stuff indeed. I plan on a home birth the next time, though it might make me anxious not to be in a hospital incase the worst case happens. Though I have had two pretty easy labors, pretty much unassisted births in hospital.
This made me smile. If I have another baby I would like you to take pictures. I agree that unless you have had a homebirth, you don't know what you are missing. They are amazing.
I know someone whose baby was born in the caul in a hospital. I do wish all mothers had the option to birth at home. Lovely photos!
