More On Drinking

I am reading this book called Courtship After Marriage by Zig Ziglar because, 1) I am a nerd who reads books like this, and, 2) I think Zig Ziglar is kind of awesome.

Anyway, in one part of the book, Zig talks about how his wife (The Redhead) learned how to play golf because it was an interest that he enjoyed and she wanted to be a part of it (and now she loves it too). It was like how Vernon started watching Gilmore Girls with me because he knew how much I loved it.

So... you all know where this is going... I have still been wrestling with this idea of Vernon drinking, processing it, and, finally, coming to terms with it (sort of... in my very own sort of way).

I'm not entirely sure if I want to do this, but it came to my mind that I *might* like to try wine-tasting ( wine reminds me of church and kombucha) with Vernon. I imagine the two of us together in wine country, sipping wine with our pinkies held high in the air, eating foie gras, and using words such as "marvelous" and "darling"... (In reality it would be more likely to consist of fart jokes and awkward conversations with the staff).

But I would to be like Zig Ziglar's Redhead learning how to play golf.

So, I mentioned this to Vernon and he says, "I don't really like the taste of wine."

Nice.

You are moving to Denver, right? You should totally go on a microbrew tasting! You definitely need to drink some New Belgium beers, they are girly! (and they have fun names!) (and Vernon hearts beer!)

We're the "couple that doesn't drink" too. For the reasons that you described. Though, we've tried, recently, to... try to enjoy wine. Gosh it doesn't taste good.
I mean, except when it does. But then, I think maybe that's more environmental.
If you're having a good time already, a glass of something can add to the good time.
To an extent. But we've recently bought a few types of alcohol, I suppose in an attempt to be "more worldly" and realized, yeah, we don't like alcohol. And watched our movie with cookies instead. And that's alright.

But I love what you're saying here, and what you said in your post about Vernon drinking.

I've been with Adam for 16 years.
When you grow with a person like that... from your teenage years... you intertwine; become yourselves WITH the other person, and I think changes that you try to make stick out a lot more than they would, perhaps, to people who haven't been together since they were kids.

Its not a bad thing. Its a wonderful thing, to be so intertwined with a person.
Its a challenge too though, when you want to try something new.

that's when I would say something like "that's why it's a COMPROMISE!!" you're doing something that is pushing your previous comfort levels, he should too. Plus, good wine is GOOD. Never had good beer, but have had good wine.

Meet me in Napa Valley and I'll go wine tasting with you... someday, right?
