I've never really been that into the environment, mostly because environmentalists (like vegans) kind of annoy me.
But, somewhere along this little road called life, I think that I've kind of turned into one (minus the pretentious political attitude that usually goes along with it).
For example:
1) I save water by not showering that often and hardly ever doing the laundry.
2) I wear second-hand clothes.
3) I eat organic, sustainable food.
4) I don't waste much of anything (food, paper, etc.).
5) I use natural cleaners, shampoos, etc.
But I didn't start off doing any of these things "to save the environment". I do them because they just feel right for me. I like getting second-hand clothes because I like the energy that comes from it. I also like to save money, be healthy, and live simply... so I think that being an "environmentalist" (I don't like that word... let's call it something else please) is a natural side effect.

Recently you asked what we wanted to read more of, and I couldn't provide an answer. I wasn't sure how to frame my thoughts on the topic. But this post is a good example to use for a little constructive criticism.
What is your goal/hope in writing this? What do you think your readers are getting out of it? When I read it, I thought, "Oh, ok." And that was it. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's nothing really right with it either. It's just a diary entry. If that's what you want, fine, but if you are hoping to please readers (which you seem to want to do), I would suggest that you spend some time thinking about what your entry is giving them. In this case, the answer is "nothing". You might as well have written, "I went outside today, and the breeze was blowing and the grass was growing." You don't even tell us how you feel about it. Is it good? Is it bad? Does it change your world view in any way? Why or why not?
I like your posts. Some are thoughtful. Some are silly. Some are delicious. It's the mix that keeps it interesting.
Somtimes we just become without much thought or effort. Good point. Go Green. Go Mama.
I got plenty out of reading this post. Mostly, more proof that we are too much alike not to be friends. I think I started off with the environment more in mind, but ended up in the same place. Few showers, little laundry, healthy, simple living, actually everything you listed. I like second hand clothes for a little different reason...I like saving money part, but what I really don't like is to spend lots of money on something that can be ruined with a drop of buttered popcorn within minutes of wearing it for the first time. When I spend a quarter on a shirt I don't care if it gets stained. It's the same reason I'll never own a brand new car. It must be some deep seeded weirdness, but I have figured out how to make it work. Which works for the earth, too.
I wouldn't call myself an environmentalist....maybe "earth friendly" would be a better term. It's less pressure than trying to save the earth. I'd rather just be it's friend.
