Downtown Hopkins is adorably quaint and charming, although the city itself didn't scream, "This is it!" I was actually left wondering why I wanted a cute little downtown so badly because I don't even shop that much in the first place. I think I just liked the idea of it.
So, then I started thinking about what WAS really important, and this is what I came up with:
- Proximity to my community in Minneapolis. Like my friend Laura said, YOU DO NOT WANT TO FEEL ISOLATED! (And I think that what I was hoping to find in the community/town that I would live in I have already found within my mothering community.)
- A successful location for Vern's chiropractic office.
- A good library (that we could walk to).
- Good food sources available.
The other frontrunner is probably Moorhead. Because, not only does it have a perverted-sounding name, but it is:
- Close to my mother.
- Has a good library.
- Jake and Mikala will probably be living here.
- Lower cost of living.
So, there we sit. Trying to balance all of those things out in determining where we should be.
Let the quest continue...

does Moorhead have a co-op? my criteria is close to a co-op, library, nature areas and parks. we have none of those where we currently live, hence our desire to move. good luck with figuring this out :)
Try Eagan.
Trying to figure out where to live is so hard!!
We decided living close to my mom was really important for the kids and us, but we are lucky because my mom is in Mpls. Even if she wasn't, though, we would have moved close to her because I like having a babysitter and I really want my kids to be close to their grandma. The older they get the more time they spend with her which is great for all of us. Do you have any friends in Moorhead? Does it have a big API and homeschooling community?
We'll be doing this same thing in couple years, though for us, land is most important - woods & fields where my children can just go outside & run & play & build forts. And, where we can have guinea hens to eat up all the ticks that will inevitably come with woods & fields. :)
Set your mind on those things you most want, and the answer will be the right one.
Happy Thanksgiving, too!
